About USPT
What is The U.S. Poker Tour?
With as many as 60 Million poker players and more than 500 card rooms in the United States, the U.S. Poker Tour (USPT) fills the need for a National membership organization to move poker to the next level. Finally, there is an organization that supports and promotes poker from entry level player to the highest professional levels, encouraging the legitimate growth of the sport and reinforcing its popularity. The USPT offers member players a consistent rules structure, the Tournament Directors Association (TDA), and establishes a centralized body to conduct monthly, quarterly and national championships and establish a national system of handicapping. Our proprietary formula ranks every member players’ USPT tournament performance against other members and our unique Player Strength Index (PSI) gives members the only National handicapping system for poker players.
Events and PSI
Great Events and Ranking System
USPT Events are designed to benefit both the poker player AND the poker room. We work with our Member Casinos to create Sanctioned USPT Events that offer fair structures and allow players to have a chance to actually play poker. Longer limits and deeper stacks are the name of the game with USPT. The U.S. Poker Tour Player Strength Index (PSI) is similar to a golf handicap. By comparing players’ tournament performances through a proprietary formula developed by the U.S. Poker Tour, each player will be assigned a “PSI Rating” after they have competed in ten USPT events. Every tournament result thereafter will affect the player’s PSI. This rating remains with each player as long as they are a member of USPT.
American Poker Championships
First APC in 2009!
The USPT will hold its first American Poker Championships (APC) in the Fall of 2009. The APC will consist of approximately a full month of satellites and tournaments priced and structured to accommodate every poker player. The buy-ins are structured to allow every poker room, regardless of size, to send players to the event. USPT will provide all of its Member Casinos the opportunity to run satellite events for selected APC Events. The schedule for the first APC as well as the location will be announced in early 2009. USPT anticipates that its American Poker Championships will grow to become one of the most important tournament series in the poker world.
Member Casinos
Both Sides of the "Big River"
The U.S. Poker Tour will begin operating at a growing number of Member Casinos in 2009. Early 2009 Events will begin at The Gold Strike Casino and Resort in Tunica, Mississippi.
USPT is involved in productive negotiations with new casino locations in California, Oregon, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, New York, Michigan, Florida, Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Indiana, and West Virginia. With all of this activity, along with the additional casino locations that we have recently begun contacting, we hope to offer USPT Events at a casino or card room near you...soon! We also welcome your suggestions for which poker rooms to include.
